Manage Content & Devices

Manage Your Content & Devices is a system where an Amazon customer can manage their content and devices. This included, ebooks, apps, audiobooks, newspapers, magazines and personal documents. A customer can deliver content to a device, delete from library, return books all in one place. Devices can also be managed by setting the default device for purchases in the Kindle Store.

Existing

The design strategy for this product was to make it easy and responsive to enable functionality that allows users more control over their ever-growing content libraries and device collections. By including rich visual display of content, bulk actions, improved perfomance and easy management of devices. The goal was to allow the customer to manage all their content no matter the platform they used such as: mobile, tablet or desktop.

Brainstorm

A brainstorming session was set up with the team to whiteboard these issues where a customer had multiple types of content yet now needed one place to manage their devices to de-register, change device name, and set device email. We also needed to resolve how settings should work which is where the user can manage payment settings, country, language, device synchronization. Currently viewing your content on web, device, eink all have different experiences. Can these be aligned? Brainstorm results focused on a tab system to make it easier for the user to add, delete books, delete devices and change settings.

Implemented design

After many rounds of iterations and stakeholder feedback the solution was to have a simple 3 tab system so the user could easily navigate to the items they wanted to administer. The first tab was all about content where the user could send content to a device, delete content, and also see detail views of the content. The check box system also made it clear what the actions needed and what next steps would be.
